Photos and Story by Isabel Herbruger, age 11

The Highline Pirates have 10 wrestlers going to State at the Mat Classic this Friday and Saturday in the Tacoma Dome.

At Regionals, Senior Brian was the only Pirate to win his first two matches and make it into the championship round where he placed second. The other eight boys won one and lost one so they had to wrestle a constellation round to see if they could go to State. It was really exciting as one by one the boys won the important match. Senior Jacob was the last one to go and he lost a very close match 5-6. He did win his final match to place 5th.

Sophmores Kevin and Kyle won their final matches to place third. The last five boys all placed 4th. Of the thirteen boy Pirates at Regionals, nine are going to State.

In girls, Junior Carson placed 6th at her Regionals in Yelm. She goes to State as an alternate, making a total of ten Pirates at State!

Both Tyee and Evergreen also had wrestlers advance to State.
