During the week of Sept. 19-23, Burien Parks and Recreation is offering a FREE Fall Prevention Campaign for seniors, their family members, and caregivers to prevent falls and fall-related injuries that can limit mobility and independence.
Throughout that week, take the opportunity to get a FREE medication review (by appointment only) of medications to help identify medications that could contribute to a fall. There will also be a chance to get your balance tested for those interested in determining their risk for a fall.
The King County EMS Fall Prevention Program will host fall prevention and home safety specialists from the Department of Health to make your home almost “fall-proof”.
Exercising regularly to increase balance and flexibility can increase strength and improve balance, making falls much less likely. Try out a FREE Tai Chi or Balance Fitness Class.
Poor vision and hearing are also very important factors in your risk for falls. Learn more about healthy eyes and hearing in seminars and even get your hearing checked.
If you get your medication reviewed and complete at least 2 other activities you will win prizes! There will be a reusable bag filled with items to help you on your way to preventing falls.
