The Highline Schools Foundation announced Monday (Sept. 29) that they are increasing the maximum amount awarded for an Excel Grant to $2,500.

“The goal of the Excel Grant program is to fund innovative ideas and programs that school budgets can’t provide. Now that we can give larger grants up to $2,500, we have the opportunity to make a much bigger positive impact in our schools and we are excited to see what new ideas the teachers will present us with!” said Ashley Fosberg, the Foundation’s Executive Director.

The Foundation will again offer $10,000 to one school or program in Highline Public Schools through their Impact Grant – which is funded in part by Alaska Airlines. The Impact Grant was created in 2013 as a way to promote innovation our schools, support the District’s Strategic Plan, and make a meaningful difference in a specific program in Highline Public Schools.

The 2015 Impact Grant winner was “Design and Engineering” submitted by Sandy Gady, Design and Engineering Teacher at Pacific Middle School. Pacific Middle School received $10,000 to implement Sandy’s vision. Initially designed to be forward-looking showcases for makers who are exploring new forms and new technologies, the Faire is not just for technical fields, rather it features “innovation and experimentation across the spectrum of science, engineering, art, performance and craft.”

Any employee of Highline Public Schools is eligible to apply for a grant from the Foundation.

Grant applications are now available online for the 2016-17 school year at www.highlineschoolsfoundation.org/grants.

Grant application deadlines:  November 3, 2016 and the winning grants are announced in early December.
