A fight in the breezeway of Highline High School resulted in four students being pepper sprayed by a campus security officer Thursday, Nov. 3.
School principal Vicki Fisher said that after repeated attempts to break up a fight, the officer used pepper spray to separate the students who were fighting.
Four students were treated in the clinic for effects of the spray.
“I am following up with individual parents of students involved,” Fisher added. “As is our standard practice, a use-of-force investigation is being conducted by our Safety & Security department.”

November 3, 2016
Dear Highline High Families,
We had a situation today that you may have heard about. I’d like to inform you of the facts and our response so you have accurate information.
Several students engaged in an altercation this morning in the breezeway. After repeated attempts to stop the fighting, the campus security officer used pepper spray to separate the students who were fighting. Four students were treated in the clinic for effects of the spray. I am following up with individual parents of students involved.
As is our standard practice, a use-of-force investigation is being conducted by our Safety & Security department.
Because a crowd had gathered, law enforcement responded to the situation. We had additional security on site for the remainder of the day and will have additional security on campus tomorrow as well.
Student safety is our highest priority, and fighting is taken very seriously. We immediately respond to any fight to ensure the safety of all students.
We are working hard to make sure students feel safe, and are safe, at school. If your child expresses concerns about his or her safety, or if you have questions or concerns, please contact me at 206-631-6700.
Sincerely,
Vicki Fisher
Principal
