A student was hit by a vehicle Monday morning just after 7 a.m. on S. 152nd Street in front of Highline High School.
The male victim was transported to Highline Medical Center with what appear to be minor injuries, according to Catherine Carbone Rogers, Chief Communications Officer for Highline Public Schools.
Burien Police told The B-Town Blog that a 17-year old male ran out in front of traffic to cross the street before being struck by a vehicle.
Apparently he was not using a crosswalk.
“He entered the roadway suddenly and the driver didn’t see him because a metro bus was stopped on the side of the road, which the pedestrian had just exited from before darting out into the street,” Capt. Bryan Howard said. “His injuries were very minor and he was transported to Highline Hospital as a precaution.”
The incident is being investigated by police.
Here’s a letter sent out to parents from Highline Principal Vicki Fisher:
Dear Highline High School Families,
This morning before school, a student arriving on a Metro bus darted out into the road in front of the bus and was hit by a car on South 152nd Street. The student was not using a crosswalk. Medics transported the student to the hospital. Thankfully, the injuries appear to be minor.
Student safety is our top priority and using the crosswalks around school is an important part of the overall safety plan.
Please take this opportunity to talk with your children about safety procedures, such as rules for crossing the street.
If you have questions please feel free to call me at 206.631.6700.
Sincerely,
Vicki Fisher
Principal
