Highline High School’s Key Club is back at it with their second annual Homelessness Necessities Drive, which will run until Dec. 14.

In an effort to reach out and support the local homeless in time for the holidays, the students of Highline’s Key Club have teamed up again with the Seattle Union Gospel Mission to collect and distribute hygiene products, warm accessories, and non-perishable snacks.

Last year, the Club collected a total 1,561 items.

This year, the Club knows that with the help of the Burien community, that amount can be easily surpassed.

To contribute, drop off acceptable items into collection boxes around the community until Dec. 14.

As of now, locations include:

  • Highline High School
  • Burien Community Center
  • Hazel Valley Elementary
  • Cedarhurst Elementary
  • Seahurst Elementary
  • Gregory Heights Elementary
  • Camp Schoenwald

Acceptable items include:

Non-food:

  • Toothpaste
  • Beanie hats
  • Toothbrushes
  • Travel size shampoo and conditioner
  • Bar soap
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Chap stick

Food:

  • Nuts
  • Protein bars
  • Granola bars
  • Protein drinks
  • Pop-top fruit (can be opened without a can opener)
  • Pop-top pasta (can be opened without a can opener)
  • Cookies
  • Individual peanut butter
  • Crackers
  • Pepperoni sticks
  • Beef jerky
  • Tuna and cracker single-serving snack box
  • Chicken and cracker single-serving snack box

Club members will write personal messages and pick-me-ups on each item prior to delivery to give the homeless an extra reason to smile and a bit warmth in spite of the cold.

All donations will be much appreciated!
