On Friday (March 23) it was announced that Principal Vicki Fisher will be leaving Highline High School at the end of this school year.
Fisher won’t be retiring or leaving the district though – she has accepted a new role as planning principal of the new middle school under construction at the Glacier site, which will open in fall 2019.
“Principal Fisher was chosen for this position because of her deep experience at multiple grade levels,” Superintendent Susan Enfield said. “She is the only principal in our system who has been a leader at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Her understanding of all three grade levels will be important in developing a middle school program that fosters smooth transitions from elementary to middle school and from middle school to high school. This experience as a veteran principal makes her an excellent fit for building a school staff and structures from the ground up, including hiring a full staff for the new school and developing school programs and organizational structures.”
Fisher has served as Principal at Highline since 2014. Before that, she was Principal at Sylvester Middle School (2006-2014), and before that at Seahurst Elementary.
As far as a replacement for her at Highline, Enfield said the district is seeking something unique – candidates for two co-principal positions:
“This non-traditional position was developed to support the additional work related to the capital project, including the transitions to the interim school and back to the new school. This comes on top of other challenges and changes facing our comprehensive high schools, including:
- Coming changes to the school term schedule to accommodate new graduation requirements
- Positive school culture and school safety
- Continued efforts to meet our goal of 19 out of 20 students graduating prepared to choose their future”
