No woman should have to live in fear, but statistics show that as of 1998, an estimated 17.7 million American women had been victims of attempted or completed rape.

Young women are especially at risk.

Seattle Taekwondo Academy is joining with Matvey Foundation Repair in orchestrating a 2 hour “Women’s Self Defense Workshop” on Thursday, April 26, 2018, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Normandy Park Rec Center Gymnasium located at 801 SW 174th Street / Normandy Park.

Master Martial Arts Instructors Susan McCall & Scott Craig of Seattle Taekwondo Academy will be leading women 13 and older through a hands on session that will cover the following:

  • Safety On The Street
  • Car Safety
  • Parent and Child Safety
  • Assertiveness
  • Situational Awareness
  • Assault Prevention
  • Evading Attackers
  • Verbal Skills
  • Striking and Kicking
  • Releases and Locks
  • Ground Defense

Space is limited and RSVP is required.  This dynamic course normally costs $40 per attendee, but Matvey Foundation Repair will be underwriting ½ of all tuition for students making this course just $20.00 per attendee.

Master Instructor Susan McCall had this to say to women thinking about attending this Self Defense Workshop:

“For the past 25 years, Master Instructor Scott Craig and I have been proud to empower women with knowledge, strategies and the physical skills to help prevent and defend against an attack.  We invite women of all ages and physical abilities to join in our 2 hour self-defense workshop. Remember, what you learn may save your life!”

Workshop underwriter and owner of Matvey Foundation Repair Mathew Cote added:

“No woman should have to live in fear of attack.  We are proud to partner with Seattle Taekwondo Academy in arming women with knowledge and proven tactics.  If this workshop helps prevent just one attack, our company will consider this time and money well spent.”
