Pearl Jam’s upcoming ‘Home Shows’ concerts in Seattle will be shining a light on the problem and solutions to homelessness, including for numerous local students.

Currently, there are over 1.3 million students experiencing homelessness in the U.S., including over 1,000 in Highline Public Schools.

Through DonorsChoose.org, teachers around the country can request funding for items they need to support students experiencing homelessness in their classrooms and empower their students to help address homelessness in their community. Every donation to a qualifying classroom project through DonorsChoose.org will be matched dollar for dollar.

Their DonorsChoose match for projects supporting homeless students is live now:

“We will match individual donations dollar-for-dollar until the match pool, about $500,000, is exhausted,” they said. “We’re hoping to reach as many WA State teachers, homeless liaisons, principals, parents, educators and community members as possible, so please help us get the word out.”

Here are some videos about this project:

“We invite teachers to post projects that support students in their school who are experiencing homelessness, or that bring students out into the community to become part of the solution to homelessness.”
