West Seattle Baseball especially invites parents of 5 year old and 6 year old girls and boys to register their children now for Shetland Baseball for the spring 2014 season. Shetland baseball is the first organized baseball experience for many children. The focus of Shetland baseball is first and foremost, to have fun while learning the basics of the game of baseball along the way.
Kids will be primarily batting from a tee during the Shetland season. Players may also face live pitching from their coach or parent during the season. Kids receive coaching from parent volunteers who are encouraged to attend the West Seattle Baseball sponsored coaching clinics here in West Seattle in February and March.
No prior experience in baseball is needed. Teams are small, 7 or 8 players per team. Games last about an hour. Practices for Shetland start in mid-March. Games run from mid-April to mid-June.
Groups can register together to secure placement on a team with some familiar faces.
Kids have the opportunity to move up through the Pinto and Mustang divisions in subsequent years. It’s completely possible to play with the same group of friends for 6 years while advancing through the ranks of the Pee Wee division of West Seattle Baseball.
West Seattle Baseball is a 100% volunteer organization providing baseball opportunities for ages 5 years old up to 19 years old. Our program is available to all of West Seattle as well as communities extending south to 188th St. in SeaTac and extending east to I-5.
Games are played at Riverview Playfield a few blocks North of White Center, 7226 12th Ave SW.
