Highline Public Schools’ districtwide food drive starts Tuesday, April 16 and runs through Friday, April 26.

“All the food and money collected will be donated to the Highline, Des Moines, and White Center food banks and distributed to hungry families,” reads an announcement.

Students are being asked to bring food items or monetary gifts to school. Financial donations are especially helpful because food banks buy in bulk very inexpensively. A donation of one dollar gives food banks the equivalent of four dollars in buying power!

Food donations should be nutritious, non-perishable foods that are easy to prepare, including peanut butter, canned or dried beans, canned fish, nuts, rice, oatmeal, and whole grain cereals.

“Local food banks are such a critical resource for many of our families,” says Superintendent Susan Enfield. “We hope families who are able will contribute to the food drive so all students in our community have access to nutritious food.”
