Duwamish Alive! will host a large-scale community event on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., aimed at restoring critical habitat along the Green-Duwamish River in Tukwila and South Seattle.

Volunteers will work at various sites to improve environments for the river’s salmon species, including the endangered Chinook salmon, which is a crucial food source for the Southern Resident Orca.

The event, organized by the Duwamish Alive Coalition, invites participants of all ages to assist in restoration efforts such as habitat restoration along the river, upland forests, and local creeks.

The event will also feature a kayak-based river cleanup. Volunteers will be provided with instructions, tools, and snacks.

Salmon Saturday Festival at Tukwila Community Center

At the conclusion of the habitat restoration, the Salmon Saturday Festival will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Tukwila Community Center.

In collaboration with Green Tukwila and the Environmental Science Center, this bilingual event (English/Spanish) will educate families about salmon and their ecosystems.

Activities include observing wild salmon, a salmon dissection, creating salmon-themed art, and learning ways to protect the Green-Duwamish Watershed.
