Highline High School’s drama program is staging a timely and powerful production of The Prom, a musical that tackles LGBTQIA+ rights and social equality — themes that resonate deeply with the students bringing the show to life.

Performances will be held at the Highline High School Theater (NOTE: the theater is located within the school, and is NOT at the Performing Arts Center next door) on:

  • Thursday, April 24 at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, April 25 at 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 1 at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, May 2 at 7 p.m.
  • Matinee finalé on Saturday, May 3 at 2 p.m.

Directed by Greyson Schwieger, Highline’s drama director, the production is more than just entertainment — it’s a platform for student voices.

“It is a very important show that our kids have had immense impact and influence on, and we are excited to share it with our community,” Schwieger told The B-Town Blog.

The musical centers on a group of Broadway actors who travel to a small town to support a lesbian student banned from bringing her girlfriend to prom — a narrative inspired by real-life events and adapted into a Netflix film in 2020. For the students at Highline, the story isn’t just relevant — it’s personal.

Schwieger noted that Highline High School is currently the only school in Highline Public Schools with a high school-level drama program, underscoring the importance of keeping arts programs funded and supported in public education.

“Our show anchors on its political commentary for LGBTQIA+ rights and equality, while commenting on our current state of the world,” Schwieger added. “Our kids are raising their voices and taking steps toward defining a better future for us all.”

Tickets Available at the Door

Tickets are available at the door with cash only, with prices of $8 w/student ID, $10 under 18, and $15 over 18.
