[EDITOR'S NOTE: The following is a Letter to the Editor, written by a Reader. It does not necessarily reflect the opinion of The B-Town Blog nor its staff:]
Dear Editor,
The volunteers who make up Highline Citizens for Schools take our role in supporting our community’s kids seriously. Every few years we give up our time and energy to raise money, make phone calls, put out yardsigns and knock on neighbors doors. This work is critically important in educating voters about the importance of passing levies and bonds to support our schools.
We also take seriously following the rules about campaigning in Washington state. We report our contributions and we disclose who paid for the items we produce as required under the law.
Unfortunately others in our community don’t feel the same. A group calling itself “Sensible Spending on our Schools” has started producing material with wildly inaccurate information and putting up yardsigns throughout the district. The misinformation campaign began weeks ago but their group has yet to file the required paperwork with the State Public Disclosure Commission (PDC).
We have filed a complaint with the PDC and hope a quick investigation will be conducted. We’re not sure why they are hiding who is behind their campaign, perhaps it’s because they aren’t giving you the facts about the need to repair and replace schools in our community.
Our community deserves better than exaggerated claims and misinformation by anonymous people.
Learn the facts and vote to APPROVE Proposition 1 on the November ballot.
Sincerely,
Lois Schipper
Highline Citizens for Schools – Chair
