Here’s more info:
Twenty seven years ago, when young mother Diane Smith returned from her secretarial job to pick up her 6-month old daughter at an in-home daycare, she was appalled to find her infant asleep on a king-sized bed with nothing to secure her and one leg dangling off of the side.
From that day, she decided she could do much better, for not just her child, but others as well. Thus began a career which has spanned almost three decades and launched several successful daycare businesses in and around the Burien and White Center area. Now, Diane, or “Miss DiDi” (pronounced Dye-Dye) as scores of children have come to know her, has relocated her business to Burien in the former site of Curiosity Corner School on First Ave South. Her previous location fell victim to a delinquent landlord, who defaulted on his loan and left Diane’s business “homeless,” so to speak.
Along with her two daughters Staci and Hannah, the ever resilient Diane found her new location where she has established a well-structured preschool program for 1-5 year olds. They are currently enrolling in their program which offers an extended day available to start at 6 a.m., with last pick up at 6 p.m.
Licensed caregivers in the program teach caring, sharing, expressing and socialization. The daily lesson plans also include table time, colors and ABCs along with art time, excercise, singing and reading.
Diane guides her team , which includes some bilingual staff on-site, with the philosophy that “Kids are our future and they have a lot to say – if you will listen.” Diane adds, “We are here to help them on their journey preparing for that future!”
The cheerful facility includes a secure open air playground for daily time outdoors, along with a large kitchen where they prepared USDA approved lunches and snacks.
“We provide a safe and fun learning environment for your children,” Diane said. “We do weekly lesson plans that engage your child we also have an outside play area. We have just opened our back room two weeks ago so we are now providing care for children ages 4 weeks to 12 years.”
Diane has paid special attention to keeping her rates competitive and also accepts DSHS.
