The Highline Capital Facilities Advisory Committee (CFAC) got a look at the condition of all district facilities this month, Highline Public Schools announced Friday, Jan. 29.

During the Jan. 13 CFAC meeting, John McLaren from the Washington Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) reviewed the district’s Study and Survey document and the methodology used in the Information and Condition of Schools (ICOS), the physical assessment used for scoring schools and other school district buildings. Committee members also reviewed a full inventory of Highline’s schools, support facilities, and properties and their potential future uses and limitations.

At the January 27 meeting, Integrus Architecture and Bassetti Architects briefed the committee on recent evaluations of elementary, middle, and high schools. The condition assessments, completed in Fall 2015, included site visits, interviews with custodial staff, and photo documentation.

Committee Chair Rose Clark addressed the committee about the important role they are playing in planning for future schools.

“The recommendations of this committee are yours. They are not coming from anyplace other than the discussions that are happening here. Whatever is decided comes from the participation of each one of you… This is a citizen-driven committee,” said Clarke.

CFAC is composed of 40 members and is charged with developing a long-term facilities plan for Highline Public Schools, including a future bond measure.

Fifteen committee members were appointed by community organizations, employee associations, and local government leaders. Twenty-five at-large members were chosen by lottery from a pool of over 70 community members who volunteered to serve.
