Lowest tides of summer = Beach Walks at Environmental Science Center!

This weekend (July 22-23) will host the lowest tides of the summer, so come see the cool critters on the beach of Seahurst Park through free guided walks with Environmental Science Center naturalists:

  • SATURDAY, JULY 22: -3.0 @ ~10:43 a.m.
  • SUNDAY, JULY 23: -3.1 @ ~11:31 a.m.

WHAT: FREE Environmental Science Center Beach Walks

WHEN: Saturday, July 22 & Sunday, July 23: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

WHERE: Meet naturalists near the Coral Shelter and restrooms or on the beach of Seahurst Park, 2220 SW Seahurst Park Road

ALSO: Open House Saturdays continue at the Environmental Science Center!

The Environmental Science Center is opening its doors to you and your family while you visit Seahurst Park this summer. Learn about the wildlife & plants of the park & ways you can help them with ESC naturalists. Through August 19 there will be guided walks on the beach or in the woods, hands-on activities, exhibits & arts & crafts. The City of Burien sponsors these programs to share what is in our watershed in unique ways, so join in the fun!

Certain themes will have outdoor options, but indoor games and activities will be offered from 10-noon:

  • Small Critters & the Big Picture – July 1, July 29
    – Discover different kinds of plankton through microscopes and on the big screen and how they affect us all.
  • Beach Walking & Trash Talking – July 8, Aug 5
    – View cool creatures at low tide on guided beach walks. Learn how to help keep them healthy and make treasures out of trash items.
  • Birding & Plant Nerding – July 15, Aug 12
    – Go on guided bird and plant walks to see and hear our local treasures. Learn what to look and listen for and what native plants draw in wildlife.
  • Who & What’s In Our Water? – July 22, Aug 19
    – Test the quality of our water and find out what salmon and the macroinvertebrates in our stream can tell us about it.
