The Success Foundation, the charitable enterprise of the Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce, announced that their NASA ANGLeS team will be one of 30 competing to win a trip to the Johnson Space Center in Houston on Friday, July 19!

This is a public event with plenty of seating, and organizers would love to see as many members of our community there cheering them on.

The Apollo Next Giant Leap Student (ANGLeS) Challenge is a national challenge celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission. Southside’s team is made up of Highline and Tyee High School students who have been hard at work for weeks now recreating the landing using an UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) and robots.

“Through this program, our team has not only had the opportunity to solve engineering challenges and develop STEM-oriented skills,” offered President/CEO, Andrea Reay, “But also gain an understanding of future opportunities and build relationships that will surely have a life-long effect, not only on their income earning potential, but their entire life.”

The Washington Regional Challenge will take place at the University of Washington in Seattle on Friday July 19, 2019. The event will begin with the Opening Ceremony at 8:30 a.m., followed by activities throughout the day, such as an astronaut meet-and-greet and STEM Career Panel. The actual challenge will take place from 9:15am to 5 p.m., with each team getting a chance to take the field and attempt the challenge. The Closing Ceremony will wrap up the day at 6 p.m.
