Dear Editor:
Filing for elected offices is the week of May 12 to 16. This includes all offices that will be on the November ballot: city councils, King County Council, and local governments such as school boards.
The Highline School Board is one of the pivotal institutions in our community. Schools impact everyone in a community, regardless of whether they currently have kids in school.
The August primary and November General Election will include four seats of the Highline School Board: District 1, currently represented by Tyrone Curry Sr; District 2, currently represented the recently appointed Joe Van; district 4, represented by Bernie Dorsey; and District 5, represented by Michael Spears. The seats for districts 1, 4 and 5 are four year terms. District 2’s vote will elect someone for two years, as this is the remainder of term left open when Susan Goding resigned.
School Board boundaries are not contiguous with school service areas or city limits. The best way to see boundaries is to look at the map on this document:
